Is your business website missing the essentials?

May 20th, 2014

Is your business’ website turning away potential customers? Are customers logging on to your site just to abandon your online home simply because can’t find what they want? If so, you might need a website upgrade. Remember, the one thing worse than not having a website for your small business is having a website that is actually turning off your visitors.

Help is on the way

Fortunately help is on the way. Entrepreneur Magazine recently ran a story supplying business owners with the fundamentals that every company website should contain. Using this advice can turn your business website from a negative to a positive. And the first tip? Your website should make clear right on its front page what your small business is, what it sells or provides and who it serves. This will convince visitors that they’ve found the proper site.

Easy to find

Entrepreneur next recommends that you don’t make your site hard to find. You can do this by choosing a domain name which makes sense. If your business is Sue’s Beauty Shop, try for the domain name www.suesbeautyshop.com. If you have to resort to www.clippersue.com, you might find that your potential customers can’t find your site. To make your domain name easy to remember, don't use dashes or numbers in it.

Easy to navigate

You also want to ensure that your site is easy to navigate. Entrepreneur says that your site should offer easy to find links and a site map. The site map should provide a fast path to your site’s most significant pages.
