Auvik Network Monitoring – Fulcrum’s New Secret WeaponAuvik Network Monitoring   Fulcrum Group’s Platform Services is always looking for ways to improve our Service Desk team’s ability to respond to network issues and outages in a more timely fashion.   Our Platform Services team has recently rolled out Auvik Network Monitoring to our SPOT Managed IT Services clients.  Auvik complements our SPOT Monitoring Service, which is focused on monitoring PCs and Servers.  Below are the 5 top features of Auvik.

Automated Network Maps – once we install the Auvik monitoring agent on a client’s network, a full network map of physical and logical topologies is generated, and it automatically updates with any network changes.  This makes troubleshooting network issues much easier with dynamically updated documentation.
  2. Alerts & Notifications – preconfigured and customized alerts provide us with notification on network issues and outages that we didn’t have before, allowing us to solve some small problems before they become big problems, and resolve big problems faster.
  3. Troubleshooting – richer details into the network infrastructures of our clients makes troubleshooting more effective.
  4. Manage configurations – Fulcrum staff can now easily backup, restore, and manage configurations of network equipment such as firewalls and network switches.
  5. Live & Historic data – View network performance as it happens, or review network performance in the past hour, day, or week.

Is Your IT Provider Secure?Is Your IT Provider Secure? IT providers are one of the top targets of hackers in 2019.  Imagine being a hacker – would you rather attack 50 companies one by one, or would you rather target one IT provider, then attack all of their clients at once?  IT providers often hold the proverbial “Keys to the Kingdom” when it comes to their clients’ IT environments.   Here at The Fulcrum Group, we take cybersecurity very seriously and use our extensive cybersecurity expertise to monitor and protect not only our clients’ IT environments as well.   Below are a few questions to ask your current IT provider about their cybersecurity posture. Question – What cybersecurity expertise do you have on staff? Many IT providers are good at the nuts and bolts of day to day IT support, but lack the cybersecurity expertise to adequately protect you (and themselves). Question – Do you understand my industry’s cybersecurity and compliance requirements? Industries such as healthcare, local government, and finance have specific compliance requirements with real-world implications for not being compliant. Question – How do you protect your own IT environment? IT providers should approach cybersecurity with a “defense in depth” layered approach.  They should have systems and processes in place to not only protect, but also to detect and respond. Question – Do you carry professional liability and cyber insurance? Even the best cybersecurity is fallible.  Having insurance in place can give some peace of mind in the event that there is a cybersecurity incident. Question – What’s your Incident Response Plan? There’s that old saying, “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth”.  A cybersecurity incident certainly qualifies as being punched in the mouth.  Having a written Incident Response Plan that explicitly identifies the types of events and the response for each type of event is critical to an effective response.  During a breach, the Incident Response Plan should help address and manage the reaction, reduce disaster recovery time, and mitigate breach-related expenses.
