Video meeting fatigue is a thing. Together mode is a new option in the Microsoft Teams meeting experience that uses AI segmentation technology to digitally place participants in a shared background. The view makes it feel like you’re sitting in the same room, which reduces background distractions, makes it easier to pick up on faces, body language and non-verbal cues, and makes back and forth conversation feel more natural.
You can even wave at colleagues, tap them on the shoulder or do virtual high-fives, all of which make holding a meeting much more fun. Above, you might recognize some of your favorite Fulcrumites! Additionally, here are some other fun possibilities you can experiment with in Teams.
Together Mode's view is great for things like brainstorms and roundtable discussions where multiple people are speaking. Everyone has the same opportunity to speak, unlike in Gallery View where the speaker has priority.
Some of the potential drawbacks for your particular organization's meeting formats might include:
- It is not useful for sharing content.
- If you are to leave the meeting, then come back, you will not be in the same seat - it does not reserve your arrangement. That could become distracting having people jump around.
- The phone version is still currently being worked on - it's not the best way to enter the meeting because of angle and size of screen.
- And, only 49 people can be supported at a time.
